LINCOLN, Neb. (Gray News) – A single father from Nebraska beat the odds to win $1 million playing Mega Millions.

When Brant Edgington went to a Baker’s supermarket to get a premade salad for his lunch, he didn’t intend to buy a Mega Millions ticket. But he decided to play a few bucks anyway, according to the Nebraska Lottery.

Edgington didn’t check his ticket again until the Saturday following the March 22 drawing. He was having trouble getting the automatic scanner to work, so he asked a clerk to look at the ticket.

“They disappeared for a minute,” Edgington told the lottery. “Then, a different lady came up with her, and they just stared at me. She told me, ‘Don’t pass out when I tell you this.’”
