New dance forms are always being created as time passes. And who knows what will happen now that we have entered a new decade?

However, just because there are new styles does not mean that the old ones must be abandoned.

Both Jay Rollins and Tobitha Stewart are excellent at the Carolina Shag. Their classic dances shone brightly on the floor during the USA Grand National Dance Championship.

Prepare to feel as if you’ve transported back in time. Jay and Tobitha are fantastic Shag dancers, and it’s a sight to behold.
When the music starts, the couples immediately begin their fancy dancing in front of the judges and the audience. They flow as smoothly as silk and appear to be made of air at times.

One of the spectators, Catherine, stated:

«OMG, his legs are made out of rubber!» «This is all new to me; I’ve never even heard of a SHAG dance, let alone seen one done so well.»

The Shag was born on the beaches of South Carolina many years ago. It became popular among young people in the 1940s.
According to Southern Living, the Carolina Shag is a «cool beer on a warm night with a hot date and no plans for tomorrow.»

It is a lively dance that is still popular in the South and can be seen at dance competitions around the country. According to the Discover South Carolina website:

«One of the reasons the swag is such a popular dance is that anyone can do it, whether they are six or 96.» «It brings people together to have fun and enjoy the music, which is what everyone wants.»

Everyone was staring at Jay Rollins and Tobitha Stewart throughout their dance routine at the dancing championship. It’s no surprise that they’ve both excelled at dance throughout the years.

In 2015, Tobitha and her husband Ashley were both honored as National Living Legends of Dance. Jay received the same honor in 2018. They both teach shack dance in the state of North Carolina.

The duo clearly enjoys dancing based on the way they move on the dance floor.
They move gracefully together, gliding and twisting and smiling brightly. Buddy Skipper and The Code Blues Band’s «Boogie The Joint» may be heard in the background.

The couples not only won the Master Shag Championships that day, but their performance has received over 968,000 views on YouTube!
Ann, a fellow dancer, stated:

«My husband and I used to country dance, and the shag is similar to the East Coast swing and the West Coast swing.» We also competed in dancing competitions. These dancers have a lot of personality. When dancing with a partner, rhythm is essential. They were already there. «I’ve seen their feet, and they’re pretty.»

Peggy wrote after watching the video:

«What a treat to see!» Thank you for demonstrating how it’s done.»
