I Had a Child at 40 to Please My Mother

My husband and I never wanted kids, but at 40, my mom pressured me by threatening to withhold her money. I had a daughter, and my mom mostly raised her.

When my mom died 15 years later, I discovered her valuables were gone, except for a hidden note saying, *”I had to choose the right person.”* At the will reading, I learned everything was left to my daughter, who gets it all when she turns 18. Until then, I’m allowed just $1,000 a month to spend on her.

The worst part? My daughter already knew—my mom had told her. I now realize my mom resented me for rejecting her plans and only wanted a grandchild to mold. I feel cheated and distant from my daughter, unsure how to handle this.

P.S. I know it sounds like I had my child for the money, but I wanted to please my mom, who always saw me as a failure.
