A Marker Message and a Party to Remember

My husband had to attend a Christmas party at work, and I, in a playful mood, decided to mark the occasion with a bit of humor. Grabbing a marker, I wrote a message on his chest that read, “This is my husband, if you touch him, you’ll pay for it.” I thought it was a funny way to remind everyone that he was off-limits, at least in a lighthearted sense. He chuckled at the note, and with a kiss, he left for his work party.

That night, I went to bed, expecting him to return home in the usual late-night fashion, but not anticipating the level of chaos that was about to unfold. Hours passed, and finally, he staggered through the door the following morning, completely loaded. His speech was slurred, and his movements unsteady as he tried to navigate our home. The party had clearly gotten the best of him, but I couldn’t help but laugh at the sight.

I helped him to the bedroom, supporting him as he stumbled. It was clear he needed sleep, so I undressed him and carefully tucked him into bed. As I was pulling the covers over him, something caught my eye. There, on his back, written in the same bold marker, was a message that made me laugh out loud. It read, “Alex was dancing on the table! Alone!”

I couldn’t believe it. It was a direct reply to my message, but clearly, my husband had gotten swept up in the party atmosphere. The fact that someone took the time to write that on his back while he was likely too drunk to notice made it even funnier. It was as if the party had taken on a life of its own, with my husband being the unwitting subject of a wild tale.

As I stood there, looking at the message on his back, I imagined what must have happened at that party. Alex dancing on a table, all alone? That seemed like the kind of thing you’d only do if you were too far gone to care about anything, even embarrassment. I smiled at the thought of my husband possibly witnessing it all, or maybe just being a casualty of the chaos around him.

I decided to let him sleep off the night’s festivities, but I couldn’t help but wonder what other secrets the party held. When he woke up, I would have to ask him about Alex and the table dancing incident. For now, though, I was content to leave the mystery unsolved. The message on his back was enough of a reminder of the wild antics that sometimes accompany office Christmas parties.
