My children may have not received everything they asked for in life, but me and their mother tried to give them as much as we could. At the end of the day, they know they have parents who love them more than anything else in the world.
They are not always around to visit us, but I understand that my children have their own lives and careers that take up most of their time.
But, I hope, they’ll read this story and take a few moments from their busy days to think about it. It will definitely be important to me.
This story is touching, and it begins with an 80-year-old man sitting on the couch in his home, along with his 45-year-old academic son.
The old man was looking out the window, when suddenly a crow landed and stood on the other side of the window. He looked at his son and asked him, “What is it my son?”
The son began to explain that it was a crow.
After a few minutes, the father asked the exact same question.
Again, the son answered, “I answered you a few minutes ago, Dad, it’s a crow.”
For the third time, the father asked the same question: “What is this?”
This time his son screamed back at him, “I already told you a few times, it’s a crow, why do you ask me the same question over and over again, what didn’t you understand?”
After a while, the old father went to his room to write in the diary – a diary in which he wrote stories about his son’s life.
He took the book back to his son and asked him to read one of the pages aloud. That’s what the father wrote:
“I was sitting today on the couch with my 3 year old son. Suddenly, a crow landed near our window, and my son asked enthusiastically, ‘What is this?’ He asked the same question about 23 times, and I answered him every time that it was a crow, and I hugged him. Every time he asked me, the questions did not bother or annoy me, all I felt about my innocent and curious son was love”.
Although the father was not upset when his son asked him the same question 23 times, the son became very upset after the father’s third question.
Why?
If you have older parents, make sure you always talk to them with the same courtesy and respect they deserve. Appreciate that your parents are still alive and you can see them – don’t take it for granted, it’s a luxury that can not be returned once it is gone.
No matter how smart you are, how many skills you have, compassion comes from the heart. Always think of those who took care of you before you were who you are today. Always remember that it was your parents who did everything for you, with only one purpose – to make you the best person you could be.
No matter how your parents behave when they are old, you will always treat them with respect. They deserve it. You are who you are now thanks to them.
