He believes that today\u2019s parents overindulge their children. He identifies three major ways this is occurring and how he would like to see parents change the way they raise their children. \u201cI\u2019ve been working with children for almost 16 years, and there are a few things I\u2019ve noticed children getting worse and worse at.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cNo. 1: It is extremely difficult for children to be bored!\u201d There must always be something going on. Please refrain from spoiling your children. It is not dangerous for them to be bored from time to time.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo. 2.\u201d I\u2019ve met a lot of parents who are overjoyed that their children can read and count before they start preschool. I\u2019m sorry to break it to you, but reading and counting will come naturally to them. Instead, teach them to play, be good friends, and share.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cMy third point is that many children struggle to express gratitude to both children and adults.\u201d Unfortunately, the first question is often, \u201cCan they get a \u2018extra\u2019 one?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201c\u2018How come we only get one?\u2019 is a common complaint I hear.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat happened to the word \u2018please?\u2019 And what about \u2018thanks for dinner,\u2019 \u2018thanks for the ride,\u2019 and so on?<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t have any children yet, but if I do, I\u2019ll teach them to play, to be good friends, to be grateful, and to be bored from time to time.\u201d When they\u2019ve mastered those skills, I\u2019ll teach them to read and count.\u201d<\/p>\n
