{"id":7823,"date":"2024-03-16T07:51:52","date_gmt":"2024-03-16T06:51:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newzdiscover.com\/?p=7823"},"modified":"2024-03-16T07:51:52","modified_gmt":"2024-03-16T06:51:52","slug":"peta-targets-school-photographers-demands-they-find-alternative-to-say-cheese","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newzdiscover.com\/?p=7823","title":{"rendered":"PETA targets school photographers, demands they find alternative to \u2018Say cheese!\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PETA\u2019s latest campaign targets photographers and anyone else who finds themselves using \u201cSay cheese!\u201d before snapping a picture.<\/p>\n<p>The animal rights group argues people should recognize what saying cheese \u201creally means\u201d and use alternative words that \u201creflect our shifting values.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Keep reading to see what PETA is suggesting we use.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, the organization issued letters to school photography companies challenging them to get students to smile without using \u201cthe old-fashioned and outdated phrase \u2018Say cheese&#8217;\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Claiming the phrase is \u201cso last century,\u201d PETA wrote in a letter to Geskus Photography, Inc: \u201cThe much-needed switch to \u2018Say peas\u2019 would be a simple but meaningful change for people both in front of and behind the camera. No kid wants to be reminded of the suffering of cows while not too awkwardly trying to pose for their yearbook photo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Gen Alpha Is Canceling \u2018Say Cheese\u2019 in This New Ad Spot\" width=\"820\" height=\"461\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/t655uzRjMq0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In addition to sending out letters, PETA also released a video where people posing for photos said phrases such as: \u201cBabies slaughtered for veal\u201d or \u201cCalf-cow separation\u201d before having their photo taken.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReplacing tired, outdated phrases with more conscientious ones is a piece of vegan cake,\u201d the group said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInstead of saying \u2018cheese,\u2019 opt for an animal-friendly phrase with that long \u2018e\u2019 sound that helps you smile, like \u2018trees,\u2019 \u2018bees,\u2019 or \u2018nutritional yeast.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newzdiscover.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/shutterstock_708378697-768x369-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"369\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7824\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newzdiscover.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/shutterstock_708378697-768x369-1.jpg 768w, https:\/\/newzdiscover.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/shutterstock_708378697-768x369-1-300x144.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><br \/>\na katz \/ Shutterstock.com<\/p>\n<p>The organization\u2019s campaign did not go over well with social media users.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYall genuinely disgust me,\u201d one user wrote on X (formerly Twitter).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t we have to quit saying \u2018crowbar\u2019?\u201d someone asked.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, on YouTube, someone simply wrote: \u201cno. food is food.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What do you think of PETA\u2019s attempt at getting people to stop using the phrase \u201cSay cheese\u201d?
