And let me tell you, she did not disappoint!<\/p>\n<p>Reba McEntire is one of a kind, and her performance at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada, was unforgettable. Her version of \u2018The Star-Spangled Banner\u2019 had everyone cheering, and those of us watching at home got goosebumps too. In an interview with CBS Mornings, she said she accepted the invitation for a specific reason.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI heard the news from my manager\u2026he said they wanted me to sing the national anthem at the Super Bowl, and I said, \u2018Oh my gosh, well, let me think about that,\u2019\u201d Reba recalled. \u201cAnd Rex Linn, my boyfriend, who is a huge football fan, said, \u2018Yes! She\u2019ll do it! Absolutely!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She said she was well-prepared for the big moment \u2013 she had been practicing diligently.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been singing the national anthem in the shower and when we get in the car,\u201d Reba said.<\/p>\n<p>Reba also said she felt \u201chonored beyond words\u201d to sing at the Super Bowl for the first time. She told Apple Music host Nadeska Alexis, \u201cI get to sing a very special song for all Americans, people all around the world, who have really worked so hard for our freedom and to give us peace. It\u2019s not about me \u2014 I\u2019m the representation of this song, and I\u2019m just honored to get to sing it. It\u2019s a good one. I\u2019ve been doing it for 50 years, and I\u2019m really proud to get to sing it.<\/p>\n<p>Reba McEntire started dating Hollywood actor Rex Linn in 2020, but they had known each other since 1991 after meeting on the set of \u201cThe Gambler Returns: The Luck of the Draw.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After going through a painful divorce and her mother\u2019s cancer diagnosis, Rex Linn told Reba she could always talk to him if she needed someone. He\u2019s been in movies like Cheaper by the Dozen, Rush Hour, and Django Unchained. That\u2019s when she started thinking about giving up singing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was going through pictures. I said, \u2018I don\u2019t think I want to do this anymore,\u2019\u201d Reba said. \u201cI meant singing. I always sang for Mama.\u201d But her sister told her she\u2019d get her singing spirit back. And she did.<\/p>\n<p>Before Reba became famous in the 1970s, she and her siblings learned to sing from their mom, Jacqueline. Reba remembers her mom being supportive of whatever they wanted to do.<\/p>\n<p>During high school, people called them \u201cthe singing McEntires\u201d because Jacqueline would give them feedback, even while she was cooking.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf someone needed to know who was singing the wrong part, Mama would come in with her spatula after frying potatoes,\u201d Reba said, pretending to point with the spatula. \u201cShe\u2019d say, \u2018Okay, Reba, you\u2019re singing Susie\u2019s part.
