Ruth took her boyfriend Bernie home to meet her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bloom.
\n\u201cWhat do you do for a living?\u201d asked Mr. Bloom.<\/p>\n
\u201cI own some property,\u201d replied Bernie.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome property!\u201d exclaimed Ruth. \u201cHe owns a chain of fast-rising retail stores.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd where do you live?\u201d asked Mrs. Bloom.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve got an apartment in town.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAn apartment!\u201d cried Ruth. \u201cHe has a luxury apartment in the most sought-after block in Manhattan.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd what are your prospects?\u201d inquired Mr. Bloom.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m hoping to expand!\u201d said Bernie.<\/p>\n
\u201cExpand!\u201d interrupted Ruth. \u201cHe\u2019s planning to buy Bloomingdale\u2019s!\u201d<\/p>\n
Just then Bernie sneezed.<\/p>\n
\u201cHave you got a cold?\u201d asked Mrs. Bloom.<\/p>\n
\u201cA cold?\u201d shrieked Ruth. \u201cBernie\u2019s got pneumonia!\u201d<\/p>\n
A young woman brings home her fianc\u00e9 to meet her parents.
\nAfter dinner, her mother tells her father to find out about the young man. The father invites the fianc\u00e9 to his study for a drink.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo what are your plans?\u201d the father asks the young man.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am a Torah scholar.\u201d He replies.<\/p>\n
\u201cA Torah scholar. Hmmm,\u201d the father says. \u201cAdmirable, but what will you do to provide a nice house for my daughter to live in, as she s accustomed to?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI will study,\u201d the young man replies, \u201cand God will provide for us.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd how will you buy her a beautiful engagement ring, such as she deserves?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI will concentrate on my studies,\u201d the young man replies, \u201cGod will provide for us.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd children?\u201d asks the father. \u201cHow will you support children?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cDon`t worry, sir, God will provide.\u201d<\/p>\n
Like this, and each time the father questions, the young idealist insists that God will provide.<\/p>\n
Later, the mother asks, \u201cHow did it go, Honey?\u201d<\/p>\n
