During a flight home, Crystal and her husband, Alton, find themselves dealing with a frustrating passenger who keeps kicking the back of Alton\u2019s seat.<\/p>\n
Despite repeated requests for her to stop, the behavior continues\u2014so Crystal takes it upon herself to put an end to it.<\/p>\n
I was on a flight with my husband last night.<\/p>\n
We boarded and sat down, and I soon realized that this woman in the row behind us had her bare feet up on my husband\u2019s seat.<\/p>\n
She was there with one of her friends. So my husband turned around and said something like, \u201cUh, do you think you could put your feet down?\u201d<\/p>\n
I think they said something in response, but I didn\u2019t hear it, and the woman\u2019s feet didn\u2019t go down.<\/p>\n
A few minutes later, my husband said, \u201cHey, will you get your feet off my chair? It\u2019s extremely rude.\u201d And still, she didn\u2019t budge.<\/p>\n
So I told my husband that he should find a flight attendant and get them to talk to this woman.<\/p>\n
He did exactly that, and after a couple of minutes, a flight attendant came and talked to the woman.<\/p>\n
She was obviously pretty peeved but begrudgingly agreed to put her feet down.<\/p>\n
After the flight attendant left, she put her feet right back up.<\/p>\n
At this point, I got angry. Why is it so important to you that you have your feet up on someone\u2019s chair?<\/p>\n
You\u2019re just being a brat.<\/p>\n
I decided to teach her a lesson.<\/p>\n
I could hear the beverage trolley making its way down the aisle.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat can I get you?\u201d the flight attendant asked.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ll take a gin and tonic,\u201d Alton said without hesitation.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd I\u2019ll have a bottle of water,\u201d I said.<\/p>\n
I unscrewed the cap slowly, and without taking a sip.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat are you doing?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust trust me,\u201d I replied.<\/p>\n
I leaned back in my seat nonchalantly and tilted the bottle, letting half of the water spill onto the woman\u2019s bag, which was stuck between her seat and my husband\u2019s.<\/p>\n
The liquid soaked into the fabric quickly, leaving a dark stain.<\/p>\n
Yet, she still hadn\u2019t noticed what I\u2019d done.<\/p>\n
Then, I reached for the rest of my husband\u2019s drink.<\/p>\n
\u201cCrystal,\u201d he chuckled. \u201cI know exactly what you\u2019re about to do.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThen let me do it,\u201d I declared.<\/p>\n
I put my hand through the armrest and aimed directly for her feet. I emptied the drink.<\/p>\n
\u201cEw!\u201d the woman shrieked, jerking her feet back so fast that she nearly kicked her friend.<\/p>\n
She pulled my sleeve, glaring at me.<\/p>\n
\u201cDid you just drop your drink on my feet?\u201d she demanded.<\/p>\n
I put on my most innocent expression.<\/p>\n
\u201cOh, I\u2019m so sorry. Turbulence, and all that. I had no control.\u201d<\/p>\n
The woman looked like she was about to argue but hesitated and stayed quiet.<\/p>\n
Instead, she mumbled something under her breath and turned to her friend, who was staring at her in shock.<\/p>\n
I caught bits of their conversation\u2014comments about how awful I was and how rude we were being.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe\u2019s just a trashy woman,\u201d the woman said. \u201cAnd she spilled alcohol all over me. I can feel it. Gross.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cShe should have just asked nicely,\u201d the friend said stupidly.<\/p>\n
\u201cYeah, but I paid for this flight, too,\u201d she grumbled. \u201cI deserve to have some comfort, too.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cSome people just think that they\u2019re better than the rest,\u201d her friend said.<\/p>\n
They went on for a little while. And as the food trolley did its rounds, the woman accidentally kicked my husband\u2019s seat when she rearranged herself for her meal.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m so sorry!\u201d she said loudly.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou actually apologized?\u201d her friend giggled.<\/p>\n
\u201cYeah,\u201d the woman said. \u201cBecause I don\u2019t want to have a piece of hot salmon or goodness knows what landing on my feet.\u201d<\/p>\n
Alton gripped my hand and laughed.<\/p>\n
That woman\u2019s feet stayed off my husband\u2019s seat for the rest of the flight.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat was something,\u201d Alton said, shaking his head, laughter dancing in his eyes. \u201cYou really showed her.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m just tired of people thinking they can do whatever they want,\u201d I replied. \u201cEspecially when it\u2019s so clearly disrespectful.\u201d<\/p>\n
The remainder of the flight went by without incident. Every now and then, when I glanced back, the woman would glare at me, but I simply smiled and acted as if I didn\u2019t see her.<\/p>\n
As we started our descent, I watched her grab her bag and realize it was soaked. Her face flushed deep red, and she gave me a look that could burn through metal.<\/p>\n
I responded with a small, polite smile and then turned away.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m going to shower first,\u201d Alton said. \u201cAnd then collapse into our bed.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m with you on that,\u201d I agreed with him.<\/p>\n
Once we landed and it was time to get off the plane, she shoved past us, grumbling to her friend. My husband and I didn\u2019t rush\u2014we took our time gathering our belongings and waited for the crowd to thin before heading to the exit.<\/p>\n
As we stepped off the plane, a wave of satisfaction washed over me.
\nSometimes, a bit of harmless payback is exactly what it takes to make your point.<\/p>\n
As we walked through the terminal, the stress of the flight fading with each step, Alton slipped his arm around my shoulders and pulled me in close.<\/p>\n
