(Photo by Donaldson Collection\/Michael Ochs Archives\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>Since 2010, Selleck can be seen in the TV series Blue Bloods, where he plays the leading role of NYC Commissioner Frank Reagan, who also served in the marines.<\/p>\n<p>The prolific actor, who in real life served as a Sergeant with the National Guard from 1967 to 1973, has a hectic schedule, which he balances with life on an isolated avocado farm, that him and his family moved into in 1988, after he quit Magnum P.I.<\/p>\n<p>Selleck and his wife, Jillie Mack, whom he married in 1987, had their daughter Hannah in 1988 and he needed an escape from Hollywood.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cI quit Magnum to have a family,\u201d he said in an interview with People. \u201cIt took a long time to get off the train, but I try very hard to have balance, and this ranch has helped me do that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The star, who\u2019s amassed a fortune from his iconic roles, says \u201cI\u2019m a fairly private person. And I\u2019ve always treasured the balance between work and time with my family. It\u2019s always about them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sprawling across 65 acres of land, the Hidden Valley property\u2013once owned by Den Martin\u2013boasts a 1926 ranch house, a horse corral and a 20-acre working avocado farm, which he harvests in late spring.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newzdiscover.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/shutterstock_176551409-768x502-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"502\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3215\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newzdiscover.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/shutterstock_176551409-768x502-1.jpg 768w, https:\/\/newzdiscover.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/shutterstock_176551409-768x502-1-300x196.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><br \/>\nWikipedia Commons<\/p>\n<p>The farm gives Selleck and his family an abundance of privacy and avocados but it\u2019s also the source of the actor\u2019s only controversy.<\/p>\n<p>During California\u2019s four-year drought, which resulted in mandatory water cutbacks on cities and towns, CBC reports that \u201cthe district determined that several times from 2013 to 2015 a water-tender truck filled from a hydrant within the Calleguas district and delivered that water to Selleck\u2019s ranch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A complaint filed by Calleguas Municipal Water District against Selleck, reveals that a hydrant in their district was tapped to supply water to his ranch in Hidden Valley, northwest of Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p>Jay Spurgin, the city\u2019s public works director, explained the metered hydrant was in Thousand Oaks, part of the Calleguas water district that was installed for use at a construction site.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Selleck previously paid for all the water that he utilized, which the Calleguas Municipal Water District acknowledged had not been stolen,\u201d said Marty Singer, an attorney for Selleck, in a statement to the Los Angeles Times.<\/p>\n<p><figure id=\"attachment_3216\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3216\" style=\"width: 768px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newzdiscover.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/GettyImages-51102354-768x601-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"601\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3216\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newzdiscover.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/GettyImages-51102354-768x601-1.jpg 768w, https:\/\/newzdiscover.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/GettyImages-51102354-768x601-1-300x235.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-3216\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">5\/21\/95 Westlake, Calif. The Ranch Home Of Actor Tom Selleck (Photo By James Aylott\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>It was unclear if Selleck paid the construction company for use of the water, but Calleguas water district general manager Susan Mulligan said in a statement that it was an irrelevant point.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo one has a legal right to district water by simply paying a rate to another water user based on the volume of water questionably obtained,\u201d Mulligan said.<\/p>\n<p>Settling the lawsuit, Selleck agreed to pay the almost $22,000 bill of a private investigator that was hired by a California agency to confirm that truckloads of water were destined the actor\u2019s ranch during an ongoing drought.<\/p>\n<p>Strangely, Selleck doesn\u2019t even like avocados.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cI don\u2019t eat \u2019em\u2026Honestly, they make me gag. But it\u2019s just as well.
