Together, they gathered on the school\u2019s football field for the big announcement, and when it came, the moment was every bit as tear-jerking as one might imagine\u2026<\/p>\n<p>By all accounts, Emma Wright is popular among her classmates at East Forsyth High School. The 18-year-old has Down syndrome, but she\u2019s never let that stand in the way of being a positive, friendly presence in the institution\u2019s halls.<\/p>\n<p>Even so, she couldn\u2019t hide her shock after she was handed the honor of being named her school\u2019s homecoming queen for this year.<\/p>\n<p>As per reports, Emma joined a number of other girls in contention for the prestigious accolade, while her father was stood by her side as the results from the school\u2019s student body were read out.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newzdiscover.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Ads-768x403-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"768\" height=\"403\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3144\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newzdiscover.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Ads-768x403-1.jpg 768w, https:\/\/newzdiscover.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Ads-768x403-1-300x157.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><br \/>\nCredit \u2013 YouTube \/ FOX8 WGHP<\/p>\n<p>Footage of the event has now made its way to the internet, showing the exact moment Emma heard her name being called. You can see her dancing in the cafeteria, and the hallways, she\u2019s loved by the entire student body,\u201d Hall said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s what we try to push here. Everybody is included, everybody\u2019s voice matters regardless of your background, your life before you got here.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce you\u2019re here you\u2019re family. And we appreciate the contributions of all of our students and tonight was a perfect example.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fittingly, the homecoming queen announcement was made in October, which is also Down Syndrome Awareness Month.<\/p>\n<p>As per reports, Emma dreams of opening up her own bakery and ice cream shop when she\u2019s older.
