An elderly couple, George and Mabel, had been married for over 60 years.
\nThey\u2019d been through wars, recessions, disco, and dial-up internet together.<\/p>\n
Still madly in love\u2014but in that grumbly, sarcastic way only old folks can pull off.<\/p>\n
One sunny afternoon, they were out for a walk in the park. George was using his trusty cane, and Mabel had her big straw hat with a flower that looked like it\u2019d been alive in the 80s.<\/p>\n
As they passed a strange, mossy tree, something shiny caught George\u2019s eye. He bent down (very slowly) and picked up what looked like an old lamp.<\/p>\n
George: \u201cLook at this, Mabel! It\u2019s one of those genie things. I saw it on TV once.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mabel: \u201cYou\u2019re gonna hurt your back playing Aladdin, George. Put that dirty thing down.\u201d<\/p>\n
But George, being stubborn, rubbed it anyway.<\/p>\n
POOF! A genie burst out, swirling in smoke and sparkles. The old couple jumped back\u2014George nearly fell, and Mabel swatted at the air with her handbag.<\/p>\n
The genie stretched and yawned. \u201cWhew! I\u2019ve been in there since 1876. Okay, the rules are simple. I give each of you one wish. Only one. No funny business.\u201d<\/p>\n
George\u2019s eyes lit up. \u201cI wish\u2026 I wish we were on a tropical island with drinks in coconuts and no kids, no noise, no bills\u2014just peace.\u201d<\/p>\n
POOF! Suddenly, they were on a beach. George was in a Hawaiian shirt two sizes too big, and Mabel had a flower in her hair, looking more confused than ever.<\/p>\n
The genie turned to Mabel. \u201cYour turn, dear.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mabel thought for a moment, then gave George a long side-eye.<\/p>\n
Mabel: \u201cI wish\u2026 that George were 30 years younger than me.\u201d<\/p>\n
George blinked. \u201cWait, wha\u2014?\u201d<\/p>\n
POOF!<\/p>\n
And just like that\u2026 George was a 98-year-old man.<\/p>\n
Mabel cackled. \u201cFinally! Now I can go dancing without you complaining about your knees!\u201d<\/p>\n
George sat in the sand, holding his cane and muttering, \u201cThis is why I never let her choose the movies.\u201d<\/p>\n
