Someone had beaten the poor pup nearly to death: he suffered multiple fractures and was severely malnourished.<\/p>\n<p>The pup was rushed to Mason Dixon Animal Emergency Hospital, where despite his grave injuries he pulled through and made a recovery.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FYorkCoSPCA%2Fposts%2Fpfbid024i3kmCNZorpwNbd7xyHYWeW34wtBs1k1JjKPa5tzsG9jpsvzhqKBCyuP5kPRrDsHl&#038;show_text=true&#038;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"945\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were all very heartbroken of course when we saw and heard what was going on and we all went into his cage and tried to give him as much love as possible,\u201d vet tech Lindsay Copenhaver told FOX 43.<\/p>\n<p>Vets named the dog \u201cChance,\u201d because of his second chance at life. Police investigated the case, but the assailant is still unknown.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fmasondixonveter%2Fvideos%2F601328808865667%2F%3Fref%3Dembed_video&#038;show_text=0&#038;width=476\" width=\"476\" height=\"476\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowFullScreen=\"true\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Officer Matthew Tamanosky of the York City Police Department was the first officer on the scene and saved Chance\u2019s life. He was heartbroken by the incident.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSeeing how a terrible human being could just beat a poor, four or five-month-old little animal, leave him there to die, unconscious, lying on the ground, it\u2019s just something that strikes a chord with you,\u201d Officer Tamanosky told FOX 43.<\/p>\n<p>Chance was transferred to the York County SPCA, where he continued his recovery. \u201cChance is showing great signs of improvement,\u201d they wrote on Facebook. \u201cHis swelling is coming down and our team is working on his weight gain and rehabilitation. The same officer who saved Chance\u2019s life weeks ago now wanted to give him a forever home, and the SPCA couldn\u2019t think of a more fitting happy ending.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was the one who got Chance out of that situation and we operate on a first-come, first-serve basis when it comes to adoption\u2014he was the first one on the scene, so clearly Chance should be going home with him,\u201d said Steven Martinez, executive director of the York County SPCA.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FYorkCoSPCA%2Fposts%2Fpfbid0sz6YFmWxuPdpsa4t1nSKMSyWPacrzx3ssH4W5zDbX3trfc6F8LzHWgtm7Yc6QwSkl&#038;show_text=true&#038;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"678\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Chance is now settling in well in his new home. \u201cChance couldn\u2019t be happier, Martinez told ABC 27. \u201cHe loves his toys he loves to play, and now he is just a normal 6-month-old German Shepherd puppy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[We\u2019re] definitely going to give him the life he deserves\u2014lots of treats, make him a good boy, a good part of the Tamanosky family,\u201d Officer Tamanosky told FOX 43.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s heartbreaking what Chance went through but we\u2019re so glad he recovered and now has a great new home!
