I recently married Robert and was excited to host our first Thanksgiving as newlyweds in our new home. We invited both our families, but my mother-in-law took a special interest in organizing the dinner. <\/p>\n
When she said she\u2019d \u201cbring some order,\u201d I thought she meant helping with dishes, but instead, she showed up with printed copies of her \u201cFamily Code of Conduct,\u201d insisting everyone read and sign it. <\/p>\n
Her six rules were:<\/p>\n
1. No phones at the table to \u201cencourage genuine connection.\u201d<\/p>\n
2. Pre-approved conversation topics only, avoiding anything too personal or negative.<\/p>\n
3. Mandatory \u201cWhat I\u2019m Thankful For\u201d speeches, at least 2 minutes long.<\/p>\n
4. No unvetted dishes; recipes must be approved.<\/p>\n
