Amanda didn\u2019t have a very exciting life. No men. No family. Nothing. All she had was her job, which she loved, but it was also something she didn\u2019t love sometimes.<\/p>\n

At 34, Amanda had never imagined she\u2019d be living a lonely life as a school teacher. She loved having kids around, which made her job bearable, but sometimes she wondered why God had given her such a life. She could have had a husband, a family, and a small tribe of children running around her house, none of which had happened.<\/p>\n

But one day, Amanda\u2019s life changed. She had no idea she would be left dumbfounded when she\u2019d see her. The little girl, Milly, had big blue lovely eyes, ginger hair, and a pretty smile that reminded Amanda of someone, the one she had once loved with all her heart\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone, please welcome your new friend. She just moved to this city, and she\u2019s joining us a little late, so I\u2019m hoping you guys will help her around!\u201d Amanda said as she welcomed her new pupil into the classroom.<\/p>\n

With that, Milly walked into the class, and Amanda felt as if her heart had stopped beating.<\/p>\n

\u201cHello, everyone,\u201d said Milly in the sweetest voice. \u201cI\u2019m Milly, and I would love to be friends with you all!\u201d<\/p>\n

Love is many things. It\u2019s patient and kind but also painful and sad.
\nAmanda had to take a deep breath before she could say anything. \u201cWel\u2014Welcome, Milly. It\u2019s such a pleasure to have you! How\u2026 um\u2026 how about you go join your friends?\u201d<\/p>\n

The little girl walked to one of the empty front-row seats, and Amanda still couldn\u2019t believe Milly was in her class.<\/p>\n

After finishing her lessons that day, when she left the class, Amanda felt a hand stop her. She turned around only to find herself face-to-face with Milly.<\/p>\n

\u201cHi, darling,\u201d she said, hiding her shock at the girl\u2019s appearance. \u201cCan I help you with something?\u201d<\/p>\n

Milly smiled her pretty smile, then said, \u201cIt\u2019s you! I know you!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou do?\u201d asked Amanda. \u201cOh, of course, I\u2019m your teacher, Ms. Dudley\u2026 Of course, you know me!\u201d Amanda said, her heart pounding fast.<\/p>\n

Milly shook her head. \u201cMy dad has a pic of him kissing you! You\u2019re the young, lovely lady in that picture!\u201d<\/p>\n

As Milly said that, Amanda found it hard to hold back her tears. \u201cI\u2019m sorry, Milly,\u201d she said, swallowing hard. \u201cI\u2014I don\u2019t understand!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDylan,\u201d said Milly proudly. \u201cThat\u2019s my daddy\u2019s name. He\u2019s very handsome, Ms. Dudley. I saw a picture of him kissing you! Do you know each other?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOh no, I\u2014I don\u2019t think so,\u201d lied Amanda. \u201cAnd\u2026 And what about your mommy, darling?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t have a mommy,\u201d she said sadly. \u201cWhen I was very little, Daddy told me she went to the angel, but I\u2019m a big girl now, and I know what he meant. My mommy died, so it\u2019s just Daddy and me!\u201d<\/p>\n

As Amanda heard that, she couldn\u2019t hold back her tears anymore. She just walked away from Milly without daring to look back at her.<\/p>\n

As Amanda returned to her office and sank into her chair, she couldn\u2019t help but think about her past. Fifteen years ago, she was in love. The first and the last time.<\/p>\n

His name was Dylan. He was tall, handsome, and had a charming smile. They met at a coffee shop where she worked part-time, and soon, their meeting became meetings and turned into romance.<\/p>\n

Then one day, Amanda\u2019s world collapsed. Dylan, who had joined the Army and promised to return soon, just disappeared. There was no news about him, so Amanda went to his house to ask his parents if they knew anything, and it was then she realized he wouldn\u2019t be returning.<\/p>\n

Soon after, Amanda left the city to escape the painful memories, and nobody knew about it. She started over by taking on a new part-time job, taking courses, and eventually becoming a teacher.<\/p>\n

Not that Amanda didn\u2019t date after that, but none of the guys were what Dylan was. She could never forget her first love, so she remained unmarried and alone.<\/p>\n

But Milly changed everything. She gave her hope that maybe, just maybe, she could have Dylan back.<\/p>\n

That afternoon, after classes were over, Amanda stayed back in the playground and watched Milly run outside the school\u2019s front gate. Then she noticed a handsome man getting out of his car and hugging Milly.<\/p>\n

Amanda\u2019s hands went to her mouth. \u201cDylan,\u201d she whispered. \u201cIt\u2019s him!\u201d<\/p>\n

The man turned around, and he smiled. Oh, how much Amanda had missed that smile all these years!<\/p>\n

\u201cI knew it!\u201d Milly chimed in. \u201cMs. Dudley is the beautiful lady, daddy! You found her!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou found her?\u201d asked Amanda, confused.<\/p>\n

\u201cAmanda\u2026\u201d said Dylan with a smile. \u201cOh, it\u2019s you! Jesus, it\u2019s been a long time!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt has\u2026\u201d she said quietly. \u201cIt certainly has. And you\u2019re alive\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cVery much!\u201d he laughed. \u201cHey, I\u2019m sorry about what happened\u2026 Actually, chuck that. What are your plans for dinner tonight?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know,\u201d she said shyly. \u201cI need to visit the grocery shop and\u2014\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCould you recommend a good restaurant for us? Milly and I are new here, you see\u2026 And how about you join us for dinner tonight?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFestos at 8? Would that work?\u201d she blurted out. \u201cIt\u2019s a very famous one.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPerfect!\u201d smiled Dylan. \u201cSee you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Amanda didn\u2019t believe it. She still couldn\u2019t believe it. Dylan was alive, and he invited her to dinner!<\/p>\n

That night, she dressed in a lovely floral dress and joined Dylan and Milly for dinner.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, how\u2019s life been for you?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cFine, I guess,\u201d she sighed. \u201cDylan, is that really you? I just can\u2019t believe it,\u201d she added with tears in her eyes.<\/p>\n

He held her hand and said, \u201cI\u2019m sorry for what you\u2019ve been through, Amanda. It was all my fault. I returned home after sustaining injuries on the battlefield. Mom and Dad later told me they had lied to you because they never liked you. When I recovered, I went around looking for you, but you had moved out long ago, and nobody knew where you were.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I couldn\u2019t find you, I just moved on with life. It was hard, but I did it. I met Jade. We married and had Milly. But Jade passed away due to cancer when Milly was 3, and this is where we are right now. I got a job here, so I relocated.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd Daddy told me a lot about you, and he also told me about your love story\u2026 I think Mommy would have loved to meet you, Ms. Dudley! You\u2019re sweet!\u201d<\/p>\n
