It was raining heavily, and David had managed to reach his caf\u00e9 entrance from the taxi when he saw something under one of the metal patio tables and stopped. It was a woman curled up on the floor under the table, her back facing him.<\/p>\n

David walked up to the table and crouched down. \u201cExcuse me, do you need any help?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n

The woman panicked upon hearing his voice and crawled out from under the table, only for David to recognize her as her son\u2019s teacher.<\/p>\n

\u201cMrs. Bell?\u201d he gasped. \u201cWhat\u2026 What are you doing here?\u201d<\/p>\n

The woman shyly looked at him, her cheeks flushed red. \u201cOh! I dozed off under the table! Well, what\u2026 what a pleasant surprise to see you here?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIs everything alright?\u201d he asked. \u201cCan I, um, help you with something? It\u2019s raining! Let\u2019s go inside!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cA tea?\u201d she eventually asked. \u201cCan I get a cup of tea?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, please, come in!\u201d he said and followed her inside.<\/p>\n

Tough times don\u2019t last, but tough people do.<\/p>\n

David got her a warm cup of tea and croissants, his mind wondering what she\u2019d been doing under a table in the heavy rain.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow much do I owe you?\u201d she asked as she took a sip of the tea.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, don\u2019t worry about that,\u201d David said. \u201cIt\u2019s on the house. This is my caf\u00e9. Let me know if I can get you something else.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mrs. Bell\u2019s eyes welled up at the man\u2019s generosity, and she soon felt hot tears running down her cheeks. David was confused about what was wrong with her. Her clothes were soiled, she stank of garbage meat, and she looked distraught.<\/p>\n

David had always thought of her as \u201cThe Mrs. Bell\u201d\u2014a bright, talented teacher who had truly set his son on the right path and put an end to his naughty behavior.<\/p>\n

She shook her head. \u201cNo, it\u2019s good,\u201d she sniffled. \u201cReally good. It\u2019s just that\u2026 I\u2019m going through a hard time. And I really didn\u2019t expect anyone to be kind. Thank you for the tea. I really mean it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, it really wasn\u2019t a problem,\u201d he said. \u201cBut if you\u2019d like help with anything else, you can let me know. Luckily, I have some time before the caf\u00e9 opens. What\u2019s wrong, Mrs. Bell? What were you doing under the table?\u201d<\/p>\n

When David showed his genuine concern, she began to cry bitterly. David passed her a tissue, and then she revealed the terrible things she\u2019d gone through in the last few months.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy husband,\u201d she began. \u201cMy husband and I were staying at my in-law\u2019s because we had to mortgage our house for his business. When he proposed to sell the house, which was in my name, I was hesitant\u2026 But then, I agreed. It was for OUR sake, was what I thought.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMy husband\u2019s business was successful, and we got great returns. We had planned on getting our house back, but my husband\u2026 passed away in a fatal car accident before that. My in-laws kicked me out of the house after his funeral. They never liked me in the first place. They thought I was after their son\u2019s money.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI was homeless and embarrassed to return to school. People would talk behind my back if I showed up like that. So I resigned from my position, thinking I\u2019d get a job elsewhere. But it wasn\u2019t easy. My savings were gone, and I was distraught that my husband was no longer there. My kids were taken away because I couldn\u2019t support them. I\u2026 I was hiding from the rain under the table. I\u2019m still homeless.\u201d<\/p>\n

You could slowly reclaim your life by working here\u2026 We have openings for the manager\u2019s position, and you could step out of whatever the bad times have caused you. Trust me. It\u2019s hard but not impossible! And you can stay at my late parents\u2019 house. I\u2019m not planning on selling it.\u201d<\/p>\n

David was heartbroken to see a talented woman like Mrs. Bell throw away her life due to her terrible in-laws. So he decided to help her, and miraculously, that help went a long way.<\/p>\n

Not only it helped Mrs. Bell stand on her feet again, but it also helped her sue her in-laws for her children\u2019s custody and reclaim her kids. She could have sued them for abuse too, but she didn\u2019t bother because she had her kids, who were more precious to her than anything else.<\/p>\n
