Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson\u2019s disease in 1991 and has fought the disease ever since, personally and also through the foundation he founded. It funds research and develops therapies for those living with Parkinson\u2019s. He\u2019s also a vegetarian. But above all, he is Tracy Pollan\u2019s husband.<\/p>\n

Michael\u2019s days in the entertainment industry are mostly over, save guest occasional guest appearances on TV and in documentaries.<\/p>\n
He met Tracy over 30 years ago when they appeared on the hit NBC comedy \u201cFamily Ties\u201d and Tracy played Michael\u2019s on-screen girlfriend, Ellen.<\/p>\n
At that moment, nothing happened. But after working together in the movie \u201cBright Lights, Big City\u201d a few years later, the pair started dating.<\/p>\n
Ever since the two have been together. They had their first child 10 months after the wedding. Two years later, Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson\u2019s disease, a progressive neurological disease characterized by mobility problems, stiffness, and shaking.<\/p>\n
He was diagnosed at just 29 years old but kept it a secret for 7 years while struggling with very dark thoughts.<\/p>\n
From the moment she heard about her husband\u2019s diagnosis in 1991, Pollan has stood right by his side Michael.<\/p>\n
\u201dWe didn\u2019t know what to expect,\u201d Fox told Sunday TODAY\u2019s Willie Geist in November 2020. \u201dOne of the things I\u2019ll always love Tracy for is that at that moment, she didn\u2019t blink.\u201dLike many other couples, Michael and Tracy have both similarities and differences. However, one thing that unites them is their positive outlook.<\/p>\n
Michael\u2019s upbringing was unusual. He quit high school and then managed to break into the entertainment industry. He was raised in Canada, while Tracy is from New York and studied at the Lee Strasberg Institute. In 2018, the couple gave a major interview in People magazine in celebration of their 30th wedding anniversary.<\/p>\n
In the interview, Tracy says they have always supported each other. She says that this is the very basis of their love \u2014 and their strong marriage.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was us against the world That\u2019s exactly what we\u2019ve created,\u201d she tells People.<\/p>\n
When Tracy saw that they were on the cover, she was thrilled. \u201cOur 30-Year Love Story\u201d is the title.<\/p>\n
Over the years, Tracy Pollan has been a huge support. And to be honest, we didn\u2019t expect anything else.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe\u2019s there in the front lines with me every single day. She never pretends to know as much as I know. And the other thing Tracy does is, if there\u2019s something funny, let\u2019s get to the funny. We\u2019ll deal with the tragic later,\u201d Fox told Today.<\/p>\n
Michael writes that he is happy as can be after their 30+ years together.<\/p>\n
He officially retired from acting in 2020 at 60 years old and having just starred as Louis Canning in CBS\u2019s legal drama \u201cThe Good Fight\u201d, a spin-off to \u201cThe Good Wife\u201d where his character first appeared.<\/p>\n
\u201cI reached the point where I couldn\u2019t rely on my ability to speak on any given day, which meant I couldn\u2019t act comfortably at all anymore. So, last year I gave it up,\u201d he said of his decision to retire, as per Good Morning America.<\/p>\n
Fox\u2019s work to both highlight Parkinson\u2019s and the potential treatments for the disease, setting up the Michael J Fox Foundation, has led him to be named one of the 100 people \u201cwhose power, talent or moral example is transforming the world\u201d in 2007 by Time magazine.<\/p>\n
His foundation, set up in 2000, is dedicated to finding a cure for Parkinson\u2019s disease through funded research.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe created what has become this giant network of patients, scientists and institutions. We\u2019ve put more than a billion dollars into it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
When asked about seeing a cure in his lifetime, Fox says, \u201cI\u2019m 60 years old, and science is hard. So, no.\u201d<\/p>\n
Yet the father of four and devoted husband to Tracy Pollan, who he married in 1988, remains optimistic saying, \u201cI have things that I\u2019ve been blessed with that are just incredible. Life is rich. Life is good.\u201d<\/p>\n
As we all expected, Tracy stands behind her husband in the fight against Parkinson\u2019s disease, and together they work to support research to find a cure. As they say, they have been fused together as one.<\/p>\n
