Rick\u2019s family was outraged when they discovered he was marrying a penniless orphan from Queens, but he didn\u2019t care. He loved Ada.<\/p>\n

He took a job in a Fortune 500 company in Houston, away from the family and its influence. He never imagined that he\u2019d ever feel differently about Ada or his family.<\/p>\n

Seven years later, Rick and Ada were the proud parents of three adorable children, and as happy a couple as anyone had ever seen. Then Rick\u2019s uncle Denton passed away and their world was turned upside down.<\/p>\n

Uncle Denton had been running the family business for the last 30 years, and now the charge was passed to Rick. That meant that the young family had to leave Houston and move to New York, where the rest of the Pace family lived.<\/p>\n

Rick said, \u201cI was thinking, that just at first we could live in the family house? It has over 20 bedrooms, lots of space for us and staff \u2014 and of course, my mother and my aunt will help us settle in!\u201d<\/p>\n

But Ada hesitated. \u201cOh Rick, I\u2019ve always loved us having our own home!\u201d she said. \u201cAnd I don\u2019t know if I like the idea of sharing with two women who don\u2019t like me!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNonsense!\u201d cried Rick. \u201cThat was years ago! They can see now how happy you\u2019ve made me, and they can\u2019t wait to meet the children!\u201d<\/p>\n

So Ada gave in, and two weeks later, the family was in New York being introduced to the Paces. Rick\u2019s mom, Frances, smiled and kissed Ava on the cheek and looked the three children over.<\/p>\n

Tessa was five, Gina was three, and little Rick Jr. was just nine months old. \u201cGoodness!\u201d cried Frances. \u201cWhat pretty children! But where did they get such big blue eyes?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMy grandmother had blue eyes,\u201d Ada said. \u201cI\u2019m glad they got the gene!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIndeed!\u201d said Frances and smiled a nasty little smile. Behind that smile, her devious mind was working a mile a minute. She thought she might have just found a way to get her son to drop this unsuitable girl and her horrible children\u2026<\/p>\n

A few weeks later, Frances walked into her son\u2019s office. \u201cDarling,\u201d she said. \u201cWe need to talk! I didn\u2019t want to bother you, but, honestly\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

Rick frowned. \u201cWhat\u2019s happening, mom?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s Ada\u2026I didn\u2019t want to tell you, but\u2026I think she\u2019s cheating on you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAda?\u201d asked Rick incredulously. \u201cNonsense, mom, where did you get such an idea?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve heard her on the phone, Rick,\u201d Frances said. \u201cAnd the other day I caught a glimpse of a text message \u2014 well, it was very indiscreet!\u201d<\/p>\n

Rick stared at his mother, his face glowing red. \u201cWhat else?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe children\u2026\u201d Frances pretended to hesitate. \u201cDarling, I know you love them and it\u2019s not their fault, but you have brown eyes, and so does Ada\u2026Have you considered they might not be yours?\u201d<\/p>\n

But Rick wasn\u2019t listening anymore. He was rushing out the door and heading for home. In his jealousy and his anger, he didn\u2019t even stop to think. He walked into the room he shared with Ada and grabbed her phone.<\/p>\n

Ada protested but he just shoved her aside. \u201cI want to know what\u2019s going on in my own house!\u201d he screamed. He clicked on the text messages and immediately read one Ava hadn\u2019t opened yet.<\/p>\n

It was a very sexy message and it was signed by Jonathan. \u201cWho is Jonathan?\u201d Rick screamed. \u201cIs he your children\u2019s father?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cRick, you are my children\u2019s father! Our children!\u201d Ada cried.<\/p>\n

\u201cGet out!\u201d Rick shouted. \u201cYou and your brats, get out right now!\u201d<\/p>\n

Ada gathered up a few of her things and a few essentials for the children and called a taxi. As she walked down the stairs carrying little Rick and dragging a suitcase, she saw Frances smiling her devious little smile and knew who had destroyed her marriage.<\/p>\n

Ada raised her head high and left the house with her children. That very afternoon she made a series of appointments and arrangements, and a week later she was sitting opposite Rick and his lawyer.<\/p>\n

They were there to discuss the terms of the divorce, but first, Ada\u2019s lawyer said, they had to talk about the children.<\/p>\n

Ada said quietly, \u201cRick, I want you to sign total custody of the children over to me before I agree to the divorce.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rick was fuming. \u201cGive me the papers! You can have the brats!\u201d and he grabbed the papers Ada\u2019s lawyer handed over to him and signed them.<\/p>\n

\u201cGood!\u201d said Ada\u2019s lawyer with a smile, and she handed Rick a big thick envelope before escorting Ada out of the room. Rick opened the envelope. He had expected to see an outline of Ada\u2019s demands but he was in for a surprise.<\/p>\n

Instead, the envelope contained three DNA tests for Tessa, Gina, and Little Rick and proved that the three children were his. The last page was a message from Ada: \u201cI loved you. I never cheated.\u201d<\/p>\n

When Rick got home, he showed his mother the tests, and when she saw them, Frances started crying. \u201cIf I\u2019d known they were my grandchildren\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat did you do mother?\u201d Rick asked, and Frances confessed that she\u2019d been the one who\u2019d sent the text messages to Ada\u2019s phone to make it look like she was cheating.<\/p>\n
